Better to follow one’s own inner law, however humble, than to follow another’s, though great. By engaging in the work prescribed by one’s own inner calling, one does not miss the mark.” —Bhagavad Gita 18:47
An Aid for the Body
“One of the greatest...cures I’ve found happens to be one of the easiest!... It’s [in] that little gold box of baking soda you use to keep your refrigerator smelling fresh.... I...employ it as a ‘little miracle remedy’ for allergies, anxiety, colds, fatigue, infections, memory loss, osteoporosis, weight gain, and much more….” —Susan Lark, MD, in The Doctor’s Treasury of New Healing Choices.
A partial spoonful of baking soda can reverse over-acidic conditions in the body by balancing pH. Bodies become stressed from too much mental distraction, toxic emotions, foods, and environments, all of which contribute to acid-causing systemic processes.
It’s important to reduce stress and acid-forming foods such as meats and grains, and to eliminate refined sugars, as well as to include alkaline-forming foods. Those are primarily vegetables and fruits in a ratio of 70-80 percent in the diet. However, as a medicine to quickly balance pH in the body, mix 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a glass of pure mineral or spring water twice a day, either in the morning or in the evening at bedtime (notice which dose makes you feel best).
Lark maintains this simple act will help prevent colds, flu, and allergies, all illnesses that thrive in acidic conditions in the body (such as in the respiratory tissues). Illness does not take place in alkaline pH bodies! Indeed bones will become stronger under alkaline conditions because an over-acidic system depletes alkaline minerals such as calcium.
Lark notes that an alkaline pH will also lead to increased energy, more stamina, better digestion, sharper thinking, and improved sleep—and reduce your risk of other diseases such as cancer.
Living Instead of Dying
“May the inward and the outward be one.” —Socrates’ prayer, from “The Phaedrus”
A friend of mine felt weary, there were uncomfortable and consistent new pains, and his spirit was not overall joyful with his life. He said he truly believed, experienced, that there was no end to consciousness, even if his body stopped functioning, but his preference was to be healthy in the body and continue to live here now. He had a lot going for him.
He had eaten only and all the best of foods he could find, for many years, and he took all the supplements to his food that researchers found would be necessary to bring health and longevity to the body. So, why was he ill? Why the dis-ease?
As he contemplated his state of illness, he realized that frequent past occurrences of dis-ease, or stress, came from his own arrogance. He had been proud of his doings, his ability to get things done. He was helping others and he was creative.
Yet, he expected more praise for his accomplishments, and, as he thought deeply about it, he saw he was ungrateful because he perceived lack in his life. He hadn’t stopped to appreciate or praise himself; instead he expected it from others and then experienced deficiency when he didn’t receive it.
